When Anda came to the AfricArena Grand Summit 2024, few could’ve predicted the ride they were about to take. Fast forward a few months, and the Angolan-born mobility startup has made history, closing a €3 million Seed round co-led by European heavyweights Breega and Speedinvest, alongside investors from Japan and the US.

Yep, that makes Anda the first-ever operational Angolan and Lusophone African startup to secure international venture capital funding.

But this story isn’t just about numbers. It’s about momentum, and the power of connections that start with a handshake at an AfricArena Summit.

The Road to AfricArena

At the Grand Summit 2024, Anda wasn’t just another startup pitching on stage. They came to Cape Town with a clear vision: to formalize and electrify Angola’s urban transport scene through innovation, inclusion, and sustainability.

Their “Drive-to-Own” model gives local drivers access to the vehicles they need, from motorbikes to tuk-tuks and soon cars, through affordable installment plans, turning informal work into professional livelihoods. Add in training through Anda Academia, maintenance, and insurance, and you’ve got a company that’s redefining mobility with purpose.

That message didn’t just resonate. It roared.

Anda walked away from the Grand Summit with the Startupper of the Year by TotalEnergies Award, new corporate collaborations, and introductions to top-tier VCs and investors, the kind of high-value access that’s the heartbeat of the AfricArena ecosystem.

Connections That Keep the Engine Running

With the recent €3M raise led by Breega, the Founders, Sérgio Tati and Jörg Nührmann, are quick to highlight how the network and exposure they gained at the summit opened crucial doors.

Because at AfricArena, that’s exactly what we do: connect Africa’s boldest founders with the right people, from investors and corporates to ecosystem enablers, who can turn ambition into acceleration.

For Anda, those introductions turned into lasting relationships. Relationships that ultimately helped shape the path to one of Angola’s biggest startup success stories to date.

Driving Change, Electrically

With this fresh round of funding, Anda is charging full speed ahead (pun very much intended) on expanding its electric vehicle (EV) fleet across 2, 3, and 4-wheel categories.

They’re also investing in battery-swapping and charging infrastructure, creating a blueprint for green mobility in Angola, and setting the tone for the region’s energy transition.

Through partnerships with local authorities and programs like Safe Stops, Anda isn’t just moving people, they’re formalizing entire industries, creating jobs, and driving sustainable urban development.

What’s Next for Anda

Anda’s not slowing down anytime soon. With over 3 million rides completed, more than 1,000 drivers formalized, and an average 20% income increase for drivers in their network, the startup is building more than a mobility platform, it’s creating a movement.

And as they look to expand beyond Angola, Anda continues to carry the “Made in Angola” badge with pride, showing the world what’s possible when innovation meets inclusion.

The Bigger Picture

Anda’s journey is a powerful reminder of what AfricArena stands for:

  • Giving Africa’s top startups the stage, the spotlight, and the network to thrive.

  • Creating connections that spark real growth.

  • And proving that African innovation doesn’t just keep up. it leads.

So here’s to Anda, for putting Angola’s startup ecosystem on the global map, one electric ride at a time.
