AfricArena and UN International Trade Centre partner to support entrepreneurs in 7 African countries

The continent’s leading tech startup deal flow platform AfricArena teams up with UN International Trade Centre to launch the #FastTrackTech Africa Challenge across 7 countries: Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Ethiopia, Mali, Rwanda, Tanzania and Zambia. This partnership amounts to a total of $35,000 in prize money, and up to $245,000 in AWS credits.

AfricArena has teamed up with the United Nations ITC to launch the #FastTrackTech Africa Challenge across 7 countries: Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Ethiopia, Mali, Rwanda, Tanzania and Zambia. This is an exciting opportunity for tech start-ups from these countries with distinctive products, unique technologies and ambitious founding teams to be scaled up.

The AfricArena sourcing team will work closely with its network of partners to identify the most promising entrepreneurs. 21 finalists will qualify and compete on AfricArena Air, the AfricArena Summit digital track on 24 and 25 November 2020. The winners of each country will walk away with several prizes, including a $5,000 cash prize, $10,000 in AWS credit and up to $5,000 business support from Amazon Web services. All Finalists will also earn $5,000 in AWS credit and up to $5,000 business support from Amazon Web Services (AWS).

"The digital economy offers opportunities at scale; from generating jobs, to contributing to economic growth, and productivity gains. Digital entrepreneurship also has the capacity to accelerate the digital transformation of Africa, which is a key driver for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. This is why the #FastTrackTech initiative supports tech entrepreneurs across Africa by providing them with the environment, skills and resources that they need to progress. Our strong focus on regional & international business generation and investment promotion explains our partnership with AfricArena; we share the same objective: fostering the African tech environment by connecting entrepreneurs with investors and corporates. We are looking forward to a successful event where the African tech ecosystem will come together, the same as it has done for years – only now in an online, and still interactive, format!"

- Rob Skidmore, Chief of Sector and Enterprise Competitiveness at ITC

AfricArena's Ecosystem Manager, Leo Boisnier adds, “We could not be more excited to work with UN International Trade Center and to provide our proven capacity to identify promising tech startups and connect them to our unparalleled network of international investors, corporates and ecosystem partners - will enable us to accelerate the success of African entrepreneurs on the global stage.”

Startups wishing to take part in the Challenge can apply at https://portal.africarena.com/challenge/70 before 23 October 2020.
